The Fountain, a business established primarily to serve the catholic community, but open to all, spans an historic moment in the Church, namely pre-Vatican II, Vatican II, and post Vatican II eras. This challenging and exciting time in the Church definitely influenced the broad spectrum of books offered by The Fountain. Even so, it was and is always the customers who make the difference, and we at The Fountain appreciate and value the many customers who have done business with us throughout the years.
The business was established by Edith Palomba in 1954, under the title The Prague Catholic Gift Shop. It was located on South Tejon St, right next to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (The church has since moved to the corner of Pikes Peak and Circle Dr).
Charles and Sharon Freymuth purchased the business in 1967, and operated it until in 1971, for health reasons, Charles and Sharon moved to Arizona, at which time Dolores Freymuth took over the business and changed the name to Catholic Gift and Book Shop.
In 1976 the present owner, Magdalene Green, having worked as an employee for over twelve years, purchased the store which she renamed The Fountain.
When the 400 block of South Tejon St was renovated, The Fountain moved to Citadel Ct., a shopping center just north of the Citadel, for a period of three years, after which time it was relocated to its present downtown location at 123 E Boulder St.
